Gris was formerly known as Niflheim. Niflheim was a canadian band formed in 2004 by Neptune and Orion. In 2006 the band changed the name to Gris, due to this change Orion changed his pseudonym to Icare.
Gris's style of music is a mix between dsbm, neofolk, atmospheric and pagan black metal, they managed to take the best things about the four genres and combine them, which resulted in a majestic and cold masterpiece.
The mainly difference between the Niflheim era and the Gris era is that most of the Niflheim's releases were demos and Gris released only full-lengths, so Niflheim's quality of sound is quite poor when compared to Gris. Also, the Niflheim era was more raw while the Gris era have some influences of the post black metal scene.
I recommend Gris for all the fans of good black metal.
